Both the eSprinter and E-Transit offer rear cross-traffic warning, but the eSprinter with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert also has Rear Cross Traffic Braking (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The E-Transit’s Cross Traffic Alert doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the eSprinter and the E-Transit have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, rearview cameras, available blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and driver alert monitors.

The Mercedes eSprinter weighs 558 to 1106 pounds more than the Ford E-Transit. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Mercedes pays for scheduled maintenance on the eSprinter for 4 years and 100,000 miles. Mercedes will pay for tire rotations, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance (up to 4 visits). Ford doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the E-Transit.

The eSprinter has a standard full size spare so a flat doesn’t interrupt your work or a trip. A full size spare costs extra on the E-Transit. Without the option you must depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

The eSprinter has vehicle speed sensitive variable-assist power steering, for low-effort parking, better control at highway speeds and during hard cornering, and a better feel of the road. The E-Transit doesn’t offer variable-assist power steering.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the eSprinter’s wheelbase is 22.4 inches longer than on the E-Transit (170 inches vs. 147.6 inches).

The eSprinter has a much higher standard payload capacity than the E-Transit (3120 vs. 2869 lbs.).

The eSprinter has a higher maximum payload capacity than the E-Transit (3516 vs. 3320 lbs.).

When three different drivers share the eSprinter, the optional memory seats make it convenient for all three. Each setting activates different, customized memories for the driver and front passenger’s seat positions. The E-Transit doesn’t offer memory seats.

The eSprinter’s front power windows open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The E-Transit’s passenger windows don’t open or close automatically.

If the windows are left open on the eSprinter the driver can close all of them from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the E-Transit can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The eSprinter’s optional power passenger’s side sliding door makes it much easier to load and unload kids and cargo. One touch opens the door, before you even get to the van. The E-Transit doesn’t offer a power rear door.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the eSprinter offers an optional rear wiper. The E-Transit doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

The eSprinter’s LED headlights produce a white, bright light using less electricity than the E-Transit’s xenon high intensity discharge (HID) headlights. HID headlights can be slow to reach full brightness or power cycle, causing issues when flashing them to signal other vehicles; LED headlights light instantly. LED lights also last about three to four times as long.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the eSprinter offers optional cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The E-Transit doesn’t offer cornering lights.

The eSprinter’s standard outside mirrors include heating elements to clear off the mirrors for better visibility. Ford charges extra for heated mirrors on the E-Transit.

The eSprinter’s power mirror controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The E-Transit’s power mirror controls are on the dash where they are possibly hidden by the steering wheel and are awkward to manipulate.

On extremely cold winter days, the eSprinter’s optional heated steering wheel provides comfort, allowing the driver to steer safely and comfortably before the vehicle heater warms up. The E-Transit doesn’t offer a heated steering wheel.

The eSprinter’s standard automatic temperature control maintains the temperature you set, automatically controlling fan speed, vents and temperature to maintain a consistent, comfortable environment. The E-Transit doesn’t offer automatic air conditioning.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Mercedes eSprinter offers an optional wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the front center console. The E-Transit doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.
