The Mercedes AMG GT’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The MCPura doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The Mercedes AMG GT has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags help prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The MCPura doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The Mercedes AMG GT offers an optional Post Collision Brake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The MCPura doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Mercedes AMG GT has standard Close-Range Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The MCPura doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The Mercedes AMG GT offers all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The MCPura doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

Earlier warning of stopped traffic, traffic signals, dangerous road conditions, weather, or accidents, can keep driver's safer and prevent crashes. The Mercedes AMG GT has Car-to-X Communication, a system that seamlessly communicates important warnings to the driver about impending danger, if they're available. The MCPura doesn’t offer a system that can receive automated systems from infrastructure or other vehicles.

The Mercedes AMG GT’s optional lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. The MCPura doesn’t offer a lane departure warning system.

Both the Mercedes AMG GT and MCPura have rear cross-traffic warning, but the Mercedes AMG GT has Rear Cross Traffic Brake (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The MCPura’s Rear Cross Path doesn’t automatically brake.

The Mercedes AMG GT’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The MCPura doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the Mercedes AMG GT and the MCPura have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras and rear cross-path warning.

The Mercedes AMG GT weighs 551 to 1576 pounds more than the Maserati MCPura. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Warranty

The Mercedes AMG GT’s corrosion warranty is 1 year and unlimited miles longer than the MCPura’s (5/unlimited vs. 4/50,000).

There are over 4 times as many Mercedes dealers as there are Maserati dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the AMG GT’s warranty.

Reliability

The MCPura’s redline is at 8000 RPM, which causes more engine wear, and a greater chance of a catastrophic engine failure. The Mercedes AMG GT has a 7000 RPM redline.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the Mercedes AMG GT 63 S E Performance running on electricity gets better mileage than the MCPura 3.0 turbo V6 (32 city/24 hwy MPGe vs. 15 city/25 hwy).

On the EPA test cycle the Mercedes AMG GT 43 running its gasoline engine gets better fuel mileage than the MCPura 3.0 turbo V6 (19 city/27 hwy vs. 15 city/25 hwy).

The Mercedes AMG GT 63 S E Performance can travel with zero emissions for 11 miles. The MCPura can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

Regenerative brakes improve the Mercedes AMG GT 43/63 S E’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The MCPura doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

In heavy traffic or at stoplights the Mercedes AMG GT’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. The engine is automatically restarted when the driver gets ready to move again. If the conditions warrant or the driver wishes, the system can be manually disabled at any time for the duration of a trip. The MCPura doesn’t offer an automatic engine start/stop system.

The Mercedes AMG GT has 2.6 gallons more fuel capacity than the MCPura (18.5 vs. 15.9 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Transmission and Drivetrain

A nine-speed automatic (SMG) is available on the Mercedes AMG GT, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the MCPura.

All wheel drive, available in the Mercedes AMG GT, provides the best traction for acceleration in wet, dry, and icy conditions. In corners, all wheel drive allows both outside wheels to provide power, balancing the car. This allows for better handling. The Maserati MCPura is not available with all wheel drive.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Mercedes AMG GT’s brake rotors are larger than those on the MCPura:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Mercedes AMG GT has larger front standard tires than the MCPura (255/45R19 vs. 245/35R20). The Mercedes AMG GT’s optional front tires are larger than the largest tires available on the MCPura (F:295/30R20 & R:305/30R20 vs. F:245/35R20 & R:305/30R20).

The Mercedes AMG GT’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the MCPura’s 35 series front tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Mercedes AMG GT offers optional 21-inch wheels. The MCPura’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.

Suspension and Handling

The Mercedes AMG GT 55/63 offers an available active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Maserati doesn’t offer an active suspension on the MCPura.

The Mercedes AMG GT’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The MCPura doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

The Mercedes AMG GT’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (54% to 46%) than the MCPura’s (40% to 60%). This gives the Mercedes AMG GT more stable handling and braking.

Chassis

The front grille of the Mercedes AMG GT uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The MCPura doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

Passenger Space

The Mercedes AMG GT offers optional seating for 4 passengers; the MCPura can only carry 2.

Cargo Capacity

The Mercedes AMG GT has a much larger trunk with its rear seat up than the MCPura Coupe (11.3 vs. 5.3 cubic feet).

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the Mercedes AMG GT’s trunk can be opened and closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The MCPura doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its trunk, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

Ergonomics

The Mercedes AMG GT offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed, tachometer and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The MCPura doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The Mercedes AMG GT’s standard power window controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The MCPura’s available power window controls are spread out on the center console where they can’t be seen without the driver completely removing his eyes from the road.

The Mercedes AMG GT’s standard Keyless-Go allow you to unlock the doors from either outside door handle, open the trunk, and start the car, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Extended Keyless Go standard on the MCPura doesn’t offer a sensor on the trunk.

Heated windshield washer fluid is standard on the Mercedes AMG GT to defrost the washer nozzles and quickly clear ice and frost from the windshield without scraping. The MCPura doesn’t offer heated windshield washer fluid.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the Mercedes AMG GT has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The MCPura doesn’t offer cornering lights. The Mercedes AMG GT also has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

The Mercedes AMG GT’s sun-visors swivel front-to-side to block glare from the side windows. The MCPura’s visors are fixed into the windshield header.

The Mercedes AMG GT’s power mirror controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The MCPura’s power mirror controls are on the dash where they are possibly hidden by the steering wheel and are awkward to manipulate.

When the Mercedes AMG GT is put in reverse, the passenger rearview mirror tilts from its original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirror into its original position. The MCPura’s mirror doesn’t automatically adjust for backing.

Optional air-conditioned seats in the Mercedes AMG GT keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The MCPura doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

On extremely cold winter days, the Mercedes AMG GT’s standard heated steering wheel provides comfort, allowing the driver to steer safely and comfortably before the car heater warms up. The MCPura doesn’t offer a heated steering wheel.

The Mercedes AMG GT offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the MCPura.

The Mercedes AMG GT’s Active Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The MCPura doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

Recommendations

The Mercedes AMG GT outsold the Maserati MCPura by almost 17 to one during 2024.
